Auckland Design Week
Auckland Design Week was conceived from a desire to help re-invigorate Auckland’s design culture and bring a much needed platform to the local design economy.
Nonfiction partnered with ADW from it’s inception from naming, to story to full brand identity and event design, envisioning a living identity full of life, vibrancy and colour, to bring a new energy to what a design festival can be for Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
The core identity system is based on a modular logo that allows for multiple graphic expressions. Resembling an ambiguous ‘designed form’ - the shapes of the custom letterforms are intended to feel crafted, yet not grounded in any specific design discipline.
The fluidity of the ADW expression allows them to be cropped, morphed, scaled and stretched alluding to dynamic ever-changing nature of design itself.
One of the most visible and striking aspects of the ADW identity is how it comes to life at the single day conference across multiple screens within a large-scale auditorium. Utilising animation, sound design and intelligent set lighting to create a truly immersive opening sequence that showcases the ADW story and providing an inspiring backdrop for world class international speakers such as Karim Rashid.
The event programme was a considerable design brief in itself. In a world where print continues to have less relevance we wanted to ensure that the programmes had a tactile nature - with a noticeable effort to make them as distinctive and memorable as possible for the event guests.
